Survey of Scottish Mountain Biking
By admin on Aug 02, 2012 with Comments 3
Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) is working with the Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) on a study of mountain biking in Scotland.
UHI is undertaking this survey of mountain bikers in order to ascertain:
a) your views on mountain biking over the past few years
b) your thoughts on how mountain biking can be developed and progressed in the future.
This is a key piece of research in directing the priorities for mountain biking in the next few years – we would welcome everyone with an interest in mountain biking to give us your opinions on how we take mountain biking forward in Scotland.
The findings from this research will be presented at the DMBinS conference on September 26th 2012.
The results will be made available on the website (www.DMBinS.com) shortly after.
Both UHI and DMBinS would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to give us your thoughts and opinions to help drive forward the development of mountain biking in Scotland.
The survey will close at midnight on 12th August 2012

More cycling friendly routes would be nice. Although some drivers are courteous the majority of drivers just want past you as soon as possible. Helmets being made a law if you want your bike on the road. Most of all alot more woodland developments. Some of our local woodland areas have been developed. However they are rather small. Fife is lacking some decent sized trail centre style areas. The local countryside is screaming with potential.
Why doesn’t Scotland make itself unique to the rest of the world and make a circular route right round the country. I’ve heard that a cycle link from Falkirk wheel to Pitlochry is planned and with the cycle route weaving thru Edinburgh to Falkirk Wheel, This is a great start for something very interesting to happen. Imagine from Pitlochry to Campbelltown then on upto Oban and then across to Fort William. This is what I’d like to see being done, you can easily take the cyclepath into well known areas of interest like the Trossachs,I’m not wanting Paths all the way round so taking routes thru the hills and mountain ranges, so people can maybe Camp and see places off the beaten track, some of the best country side in Scotland is miles away from any roads. Well thats me made my suggestion i could elaborate alot more with Pro’s and Cons/tourism etc.. but thought i’d give my idea first.
I like the idea about the circle route around Scotland, It’s something that would attract attention from bikers from all the world and could be a real selling point for the country.
